In addition to the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure, civil and criminal Texas courts (county, state, federal, appellate) have local rules  to which evidence, litigants and witnesses must adhere.

Local rules express the Texas court's positions on:

  • exchanging exhibits prior to trial
  • dress codes
  • sample and form orders
  • how to set a hearing
  • rules of decorum and procedure

Lawyers should check these local rules before filing and trying a case in a new county.  Some counties included on this list are Harris Couty, Travis County, Dallas County and Tarrant County.
